(April 6, 2019) Since the mid 1980s, Freddie Jackson has been a mainstay on Quiet Storm radio. When the sun went down, the moon rose, the candles were lit and the wine poured, Freddie Jackson’s music has been a part of the soundtrack for romance. We all know the numbers, “Rock Me Tonight,” “You Are My Lady” and “Tasty Love.” Even a more up-tempo tune such as “Jam Tonight” is cut designed to bring invite the kind of ballroom dancing that invites couples to touch and move in synchronized motion on the dance floor. It’s one of the early steppers anthems.

Jackson never stopped making music for lovers, even as it seemed that the industry moved away from the kind of sensual romantic numbers that made him a star. Love Signals, Jackson’s most recent album, includes his signature romantic ballads and mid-tempo love songs. However, Jackson also switches it up with tracks such as the “Find My Way,” the tune featured in this First Listen.

Here, he sings about the struggle to live true to himself in a fast-moving world where competing demands and expectations can pressure him to live a life of compromise, trend and crowd following. The years may have made added some rough edges to Jackson’s legendary smoothness and range, but the passion and honesty that Jackson brings to the lyrics can be heard throughout. Check it out here.
