(August 16, 2020) Getting inked is big business. Tattoo removal service may not be as big a business, but it’s pretty big. I read a report that pegged the worldwide revenue for tattoo removal at north of $11 billion in 2016 and that ink removal will top $20 billion by 2023. Removing a tattoo can cost a couple of thousand dollars, Whew, regret costs.

Gene Noble’s new song, the very good “Matching Tattoos,” finds him telling the story of two people who decided not to make their bodies a canvas for a love that, alas, is no more. I actually heard this joint a couple of weeks ago. It was a part of a mixtape that I decided to play while working out and the hypnotically funky groove that is propelled by a driving bass line drew me in. The tune has a slow bounce and Noble’s phrasing and range see him moving from a husky baritone to a sweet falsetto that he uses to massage the heck out of the lyrics. He had me putting this one on repeat. Check out “Matching Tattoos” here.
