(January 15, 2021) The upcoming movie Blithe Spirit, a new reboot of a Noel Coward story, sounds like a very odd premise for a film: a writer is involved in a love triangle with his current spouse and the spirit of his deceased wife. But while we may not rush out to see the period piece (which has received decidedly mixed reviews), we were interested when we heard that the accompanying soundtrack included a new song by consistent ST fave, the ubiquitous Gregory Porter.

Porter’s contribution, “Out of My Control,” is not his standard jazz meets soul fare. Opening with an acoustic piano, it retains a very classical European style throughout. Of course, Porter handles it – as he does everything else – with ease, gently moving through the number, his rich baritone never overpowering.
