(February 18, 2023) Gwendolyn McKinnon (A.K.A. Gwen Yvette) has gained a lot of respect as an artist since the early 90’s, building a steady fan base in her home state.  After her 2016 debut single, the steppers-friendly “So in Love” with rapper Sekham Re, she won Female R&B Artist of the Year honors at the South Carolina Music Awards. Besides keeping busy with her band, TC Soul (named after her father) and opening for music icons including Frankie Beverly & Maze and Patti LaBelle, one of Gwen Yvette’s finest hours is currently paying tribute to the Queen of Soul - Aretha Franklin - in a full stage show. And Gwen’s brand of refined soul stands out during her live shows featuring a mix of funk, blues and hip-hop.

For Gwen Yvette’s bow with SoulTracks, we present her latest single, “Country Swagg,” which proudly shows off the raw party spirit.  Launching with a vote of swagg: “This is a hit,” this two-step mix of soul, country and pop will perk the interest of steppers and line dancers.  Despite Gwen’s arrangement of creamy smooth lead and background voices, the message clearly calls all party goers to let loose on the dance floor.

Sean Dolby’s smart minimal production leads off with an infectious guitar hook, matching Gwen Yvette’s vocal performance with light keys, snares, and brass. If you are craving swagger to the fullest with a soulful touch, take a listen to “Country Swagg.”
