(January 15, 2020) I’m a big fan of Nancy Wilson. So, when I heard the cut “Love Is Never Lost,” by Nashville native Habaka, I instantly made that connection. Her voice possesses the precise phrasing and the conversational sensuality that came across in Wilson’s work. The instrumental arrangement has a tempo that changed from an intimate conversation between voice, piano and guitar, and transitions into a gentle bossa nova jazz swing.

“Love Is Never Lost” is a classy song that tells the story of love’s ability to endure, maintain and burn while waiting for some spark to fully rekindle it. Habaka tells us, "'Love is Never Lost," written for me by Johnnie W. Foster, Jr, is a song about hope. Its sentiment is one to which we can all relate, I believe.  We've all loved someone or something that we've had to let go, only to discover that the love never dies.  It remains dormant in our hearts and when we have loved and lost, our most precious memories remain."

Habaka hails from a family that musicians so the polished and professional class that you hear in her voice came honestly. Her grandmother was a dancer and her mother a dancer and vocalist, and her father served as the band leader for Bobby ‘Blue’ Bland and saxophonist for B.B. King, so what you hear on “Love Is Never Lost” is not a surprise at all. Habaka herself has graced the stages in some of music’s most renown stages and shared the spotlight with legends such as Wilson Pickett, Bo Diddley and B.B. King.
