(December 10, 2020) The Brooklyn soul collective Herbivores made waves earlier this year with their self-titled EP, a tasty amalgamation of soul, funk and pop with a 90s neo soul vibe to it. Now the quartet, consisting of Bel-Ami, Reddaz, Misha Savage and Will Sacks, is back with their follow up EP, the five song Nightshades.

Telling a very 2020 series of tales of frustration and even a bit of confusion, Nightshades takes its time to explore the emotions of relationships, with a haunting aural landscape under the group’s fine vocal and musical performance.

One song that particularly hits us is the loping, bass-driven "Boomerang," a cool number with gritty lead vocals contrasting nicely with Prince-like falsetto harmonies, and a rhythm section that keeps it all chugging.

The group says about the the song, "'Boomerang' is the most unabashedly southern sounding joint on the record. Will laid out the guitar and Misha immediately felt like it had to have a little horn on it. We called up our buddy Carter Yasutake and he hit it with something that calls back to Roy Hargrove or Anthony Hamilton. Just some sweet, sweet playin'. Thematically, the track speaks to how at some point in life, we all have to look in the mirror and decide to either accept what we see, or begin the work to make it into something we want to see."

We are completely digging this one, and are proud to present its World Premiere. Check out "Boomerang" below, and welcome Herbivores to SoulTracks!
