(May 8, 2020) Eminent UK soul label Dome Records has been serving up authentic R&B grooves for the better part of three decades. One of its most prominent signings of the early 2000s, funky outfit Full Flava (spearheaded by producer Rob Derbyshire), garnered international respect via a handful of cream-of-the-crop albums featuring premiere R&B vocalists. In recent times, the act has been revisiting some of its early hits with refreshed mixes retaining the tunes’ original essence while adding a bit of rhythmic beef for a new era.

In recent times, the act has been revisiting some of its early hits with refreshed mixes retaining the tunes’ original essence while adding a bit of rhythmic beef for a new era.

A favorite from Full Flava’s 2003 sophomore set, Colour of My Soul, is the smooth-riding “Make It Right”—featuring vocalist Donna Odain. Embedding the song’s positively affirming message with understated cool and gentle finesse, she made the first version of the song something that stands the test of time. Now, Incognito’s founder Bluey and his longtime collaborator Richard Bull have instilled additionally delightful vibes into the mix with summery guitar strumming and a shuffling, Latin-tinged beat. The extra oomph of these rhythmic enhancements afforded to “Make It Right” bring out the best in the tune’s rhythmic phrases and the engaging tones of Odain, who seems to have gone off the recording radar since the time of the original recording.
