(July 25, 2022) Jermaine Hardsoul is an artist who’s been an excellent team player, and is now stepping confidently into the role of leader. He’s worked with the likes of Eric Roberson, Musiq Soulchild, 50 Cent, Carl Thomas and Jagged Edge, just to name a few.

Hardsoul has seen a lot a learned a lot and he’s applied that to his career as a solo artist. He can bring the cadence and swag of an artist who grew up in the era of hip-hop infused R&B. However, he also possesses a buttery baritone with the range to slip seamlessly into tenor range that is familiar to fans of more traditional R&B.

And as we hear on “Sundress,” the new single from his new EP Oji Nunu, Hardsoul also understands the wisdom of working with other artists who know how to play well with others. “Sundress” is a sweet song that samples the opening keyboard riff from Whitney Houston’s “You Give Good Love” to tell the story of how life brings two people back together for a second shot at love.

The song is a duet that pairs Hardsoul with Algebra Blessett, a vocalist who has been a frequent duet partner because she has the talent to sing in a way that is both conversational and intimate. Listening to the back and forth back between Hardsoul and Algebra is like being in the room as two people prepare to take a plunge into love 2.0. Check out “Sundress” here.
