First Listen: Josh Tatofi has a Luther smooth style

(January 2, 2021) Josh Tatofi has music in his blood. The Hawaiian native grew up with a family immersed in it. His father was the founder of a local island music group (Kapena), and he was taught to play the guitar at a young age.

His upbringing led to a career in music and a Grammy nomination for Best Regional Roots Music. But his musical influences were largely soul artists, and that influence comes through loud and clear on his new single, “Never, Never, Never.”

When I first heard Tatofi’s riffs from “Never, Never, Never” on a random Spotify playlist, I did a double take - is that Luther? So I strained to hear more and, while he is his own vocalist, Tatofi shows himself to be a student of the great baritone soul men of the past three decades.

“Never, Never, Never” is a great introduction to this artist who is not known in soul music circles. With this song, he may be in years to come. Check it out.
