SoulTracks First Listen: Jua recaptures that "Old Devil Moon"

Wow, has it really been seven years since we introduced SoulTrackers to jazzy soul singer Jua? Yep. We instantly liked the Chicago-born singer for his sense of music history and his smooth, soulful stylings. Well, after an absence, Jua is back on June 24 with a new album, Colors of Life, and we're proud to be presenting the World Premiere of one of the prime cuts from the album: a chilling rendition of the classic, "Old Devil Moon."

Says Jua, ""This standard was a late edition to the songs I chose to record. I initially just wanted to add this song to my repertoire after hearing Cassandra Wilson’s version on an album she recorded with Jacky Terrason entitled 'Rendezvous.' After I started to learn it and I took it to one of my private lessons with the amazing jazz vocalist, Kate McGarry, I realized I had a special connection to it. Kate clearly pointed it out as she listened which inspired me to dig even deeper into the tune. Once I digested it some more, I knew it was a great song to record."

We're glad that Jua's back, and we think you will be too. Check out "Old Devil Moon" and tell us what you think!
