(June 6, 2018) Mr. Henry’s, a restaurant and live music venue in the nation’s capital, played and continues to play a key role in the distinguished career of Julia Nixon. She performed at the D.C. institution before being selected to replace Jennifer Holiday as Effie in Dreamgirls. Nixon can currently be seen in a monthly Saturday showcase. Nixon pursued a music career even as she worked on Dreamgirls, signing with Polygram London and releasing several hit records in Europe. She eventually caught the attention of A-listers and opened for artists such as Richard Pryor and Aretha Franklin. Then life intervened as Nixon married and raised a family. But she has returned with a track “Survive (LIVIN’)” that can best be sung by a person who has experienced life’s challenges.

I have to say this song is a perfect match for me.  I was going through a very personal traumatic situation and it ended at the very time my friend producer/writer (Weadom Abdul) out of the goodness of his heart, introduced me to the song and asked me to record it!  If you bring the highest level of passion to whatever you do in life you can’t lose!!!

Check out “Survive (LIVIN’)” below, and welcome Julia Nixon to SoulTracks.
