First Listen: Jya asks "Where Would I Be"?

(March 3, 2023) Jya’s “WWIB (Where Would I Be)” puts a twist of a question that has been asked in song, poetry and prose a million times. The question is usually a rhetorical because the person asking the question understands having this man or woman in their lives has put them in a better place.

Jya cleverly turns that entire concept on its head on this sleek and percussive contemporary R&B banger. In a conversational tone, Jya acknowledges that both people are in a better place because they are no longer in each other’s lives. After a months or years of trying to make the relationship work, she acknowledges what had been obvious to everyone but her (and her ex) – their relationship was toxic.

The relationship was also a learning experience, and for that she’s grateful. She - and hopefully her ex – will grow from this experience. So, in this case, the question Jya asks in “WWIB” leaves listeners with the realization that a bad situation can lead to a better place if it leads to self-reflection, a reordering of priorities and an honest assessment of the baggage you carry.
