First Listen: Kejam and Derick Pierre are "Back Together"

(May 24, 2019) The mainstream either doesn’t know what to do with R&B crooners such as Derick Pierre, or figures there is no place for them. Consequently, the industry either tries to change them into something that is more contemporary and less classic, or the industry discards them. Music fans who pine for singers who possess the kind of mature and well trained husky yet smooth baritone that is Pierre’s calling card complain about the dearth of good slow and mid-tempo soul and R&B. We argue till the cows come home that the bench is deep and that vocalists such as Pierre hidden in plain sight.

Fortunately for the Kansas City native, a producer like Dee ‘Kejam’ Majek knows exactly what to do with like Pierre: give him a mid-tempo groove and some lyrics with a story to tell about two people with a past who are trying to figure out if they can have a future. Or as Kejam said, “For Derick and I, it’s all about music that you can relate to.  Back Together with its cool laid –back groove and smooth vocals is addictive. Good warm, feel good music that will lift your spirit, once you hear it.”

That is exactly what Kejam and Pierre craft on “Back Together,” a track that sports a stepper’s set bass line and a smooth, laid back arrangement that provides Pierre ample space to showcase his vocal range that can move into the high tenor area. Check it out.
