(October 7, 2018) Since opening up the First Listen pages on Soul Tracks, we have presented many opportunities to hear familiar, and maybe not so familiar, voices and musicians who release fresh material that is noteworthy for the urban music audiences.  However, there are particular artists whose talents resonate on such a high level, we invite them back for an encore appearance – in the same year. Kelly Renee, whose previous single “You Linger” was spotlighted on First Listen back in the spring, registered at number five on the Amazon U.K. Hot New Digital Releases.  Besides her work with other indie producers, including the 2017 track, “Higher,” this soulful songstress/songwriter already built a loyal following with performances throughout New York and Chicago.  Yet, it was a magnetic connection with producer Chuck Slay that marked her return to the studio with “You Linger” and her latest single, “Hello.”

Yes, “Hello” tells another tale of new found love, yet it is Renee’s incredible tone and phrasing that reels in the listener: “But if I were to speak to you/What would I possibly say/Would you open up those sweet lips of yours/And steal my heart away, take my breath away.”   Meshing funk, soul and subtle hip-hop edges, the vibe of “Hello” may feel like the glistening electric piano elements of Robert Glasper’s Black Radio CD series.

Next in line is the anticipation surrounding Renee’s upcoming E.P. that will include these aforementioned singles. But for now, say “Hello” to Kelly Renee.
