Yet, he’s kept plenty busy: penning his autobiography (Baring My Soul), touring with Living in a Box, guesting on a number of colleagues’ albums, and practicing acupuncture. Having recently celebrated the thirtieth anniversary of his debut LP, Voices, and enjoyed widespread success with the cool and funky “Contagious,” the stage finally seems yet for his long-awaited fifth solo set—currently scheduled for spring 2023 release on Virtue Records.

Wrapped up in a no-frills groove similar to “Contagious,” Thomas’s new single, “Got It on Time,” is fueled by a quickly engaging rhythm arrangement ripe for roller skating and comes to life with the singer’s conversational phrasing and effortlessly gliding tenor tones. The catchy chorus, adorned with layers of self-harmonies, flows perfectly with the punctuated verses in the mode of classic R&B jams from simpler times. Yet, clocking in at only two-and-a-half minutes, the song concludes suddenly before the time feels right.
