October 16, 2017 – A little over a year ago, I happened upon the SoundCloud site for the singer and songwriter Kevin Ross. Ross had then just recently posted some new recordings, including the featured track, a cover of “Prototype” by Andre 3000 of OutKast. I had not heard Ross’s work previously, and with great enthusiasm I introduced his work to the publisher of SoulTracks, who agreed he has a special talent. Since then, we have faithfully followed, and reviewed, Ross’s new music, including his debut full-length album The Awakening, released earlier this year.

Much to our surprise, and disappointment, however, somehow “Prototype” did not make the final cut for The Awakening and remained only available on SoundCloud.  Until last week, that is, when it appeared on Ross’s latest Motown release, the EP Drive!  If you missed our First Listen back in September 2016, don’t miss the track this time, SoulTrackers. Ross’s vocal dexterity and elasticity will wow you:  His range, tonality, phrasing, and falsetto are almost other-worldly here.  Enjoy.
