(September 1, 2020) Go back to the very first live edition of the SoulTracks Readers Choice Awards in 2007, and there onstage was an up-and-coming songwriting, production and performing duo, Kloud 9. The twin brothers, Kelvis and Kendall Duffie, had been rocking the indie soul circuit with their brand of smooth, infectious adult soul, both for themselves and for other artists. They took home the Best Duo or Group award that night, a recognition of what they were doing for the soul music world.
The guys have continued to shine their light on other artists, but it’s been too long since we’ve heard new music from Kloud 9. Unknown to us, the duo has been quietly working on a new disc for eight years, and it will come to fruition this Fall with the double EP, Don’t Stop. The disc includes collaborations with some notable adult soul stars, including Howard Hewett, Maysa and Kenya.
The first peek at music from the new album is the smooth single “21 Days.” It’s a groovealicious number that is produced by Rahni Song (Najee, Freddie Jackson, The System) , that has the infectiously sweet Kloud 9 sound, with their brotherly harmonies on top. The song is about what was supposed to be a three week affair, but developed into a lifetime romance.
