(March 12, 2022) Latrese Bush stays busy. That should not be surprising. Blessed with a mezzo soprano voice and powerful range, she’s worked as a backing vocalist for a who’s who of stars over the years. She tours regularly with Gloria Gaynor and she has writing credits to her name as well. At some point, an artist with Bush’s drive and natural talent just had to branch out on her own, and she’s been dropping singles and releasing projects over the last five years.

Bush’s latest release is “Caffeine.” The tune is a slow burner that brings together bluesy guitars and contemporary R&B techniques and lays the foundation for Bush’s vocal and lyrical flights of fancy. On “Caffeine,” she likens the attraction that she has for her lover to the energy giving and habit-forming power of the caffeine in her morning cup.

“Caffeine” is a mature ballad that anyone who has lived a bit a life can understand. We can understand needing that extra boost in the morning and then later in the day when we start dragging a bit. “Caffeine” tells the story of a man who visually and spiritually has that same power to arouse and need as that chemical that makes us crave some that cup of coffee.
