Detroit’s Laura Rain and the Caesars have been playing around the Midwest and Canada for nearly a decade, but they are brand new to SoulTracks. The group, consisting of Laura Rain (vocals), George Friend (guitar), Jim Alfredson (keyboards) and Jeff Powe (bass and drums), has a passion for classic soul, and that is clear from the timeless vibe of the music that has infused its albums over the years.
It took awhile, but we’re finally on the bandwagon for this talented act. “If I Can’t Have You” is the fourth release in the band’s SINGLES 2020 series, and has the feel of a song that could thrive in any of the last five decades. With the rhythm section laying down a deep groove, the song allows Laura Rain to release her expressive vocals, fully delivering both the passion and the longing that weave through the song’s lyrics.
