(November 14, 2020) Back at the first SoulTracks Readers’ Choice Awards, Maya Azucena graciously met with a group of grade school children, just an hour or so before she stopped the show with her performance of “Junkyard Jewel,” a beautiful composition that talked about the preciousness of lives that are sometimes devalued by others.

Encouraging people has always been central to Maya’s music, and she has approached the tumultuous year of 2020 with yet another song of encouragement, largely borne out of the demonstrations around the world during this past Summer. “You Matter” features Maya singing call-and-response style with a youth choir, reminding them of their importance, even when – maybe especially when -- “troubled waters come.”

It’s always great to hear this fantastic singer who always seems to bring a positive message with her. Check out “You Matter” below and welcome Maya Azucena back to SoulTracks.
