First Listen: Maya Azucena sings for the "Black Butterfly" in our young

Maya Azucena has been a SoulTracks favorite for nearly a decade. Her combination of musical sensibilities and social consciousness have always created compelling music and have made her one of the most sought after independent artists around.

In light of the Trayvon Martin killing and trial, Maya is now releasing a new single that reprises Deniece Williams' classic "Black Butterfly," but brought forward in brilliant fashion. As Maya puts it, "This is for every single black boy in America. It is for every black boy who did and continues to do great things with their legacy. You're all beautiful. And for those who's lives have been unjustly snatched too soon. You’ll never be forgotten."

The song will be available for sale beginning September 3, with proceeds going to the Travon Martin Foundation. "Black Butterfly" is our newest SoulTracks First Listen, and a fantastic one at that. Check it out below and tell us what you think. Then plan to buy the song next week!
