(September 10, 2018) From the 1950s through the 1970s, much of the iconic soul music was recorded in FAME studio in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. Listerally a who’s who of blues and soul performers – and later rock performers – found inspiration in this musical bastion of the deep south.

Now an equally impressive group of current artists ranging from Chris Stapleton to Vince Gill are paying tribute to Muscle Shoals with the new album Muscle Shoals – Small Town, Big Sound, with new versions of many of the city’s classic songs from yesteryear.

One of the songs that caught our eye is the bluesy cover of “Cry Like a Rainy Day” by longtime SoulTracks fave Michael McDonald. He does the song more than justice, and lends his soulful vocals in a tribute that brings it home with a great finish. Surely Miss Etta James would smile.
