First Listen:  Monielle and Jakspin teach us to be “Resilient”

When two musicians truly connect, their results can blossom into a prosperous working relationship, springing forth regular collaborations for a long season, perhaps their whole careers.  And as this special relationship continues to grow, they might as well play a significant part of each other’s musical families.  Since Philly-born vocalist/songwriter/rapper Monielle hooked up with German DJ/producer Jakspin a couple years ago, they have crossed paths from time to time as part of her Sunday Recreation Music catalog, demonstrating their appreciation for infectious grooves filled with back in the day R&B, funk and hip-hop soundtracks.

In our newest SoulTracks First Listen, Monielle and Jakspin (AKA MxJ) present the chilled out, funked-up, motivational “Resilient,” released on Sunday Recreation Music and Jakspin’s Chillanthropy imprint.  Driven by rolling bass lines and sparkling electric piano, the song features Monielle’s laid back soulful voice, directing us to hold our heads up high no matter what the situation:  “It’ll be OK / It’ll be alright / And if it won’t be OK / We can figure it out.”   With teamwork such as this, Monielle and Jakspin show that they know how to craft uplifting messages, while also continuously proving their remarkable musicality.
