Joe Tatton on organ and piano) The New Mastersounds celebrate their two decades of funky excellence with the new album, Shake It.
(June 10, 2019) As they celebrate twenty years doing as one of the leading funk bands, the members of The New Mastersounds continue to play, compose and record with the enthusiasm and joy of teenagers, while having garnered the experience and skill of the seasoned veterans they are.
With the addition of new singer Lamar Williams, Jr. joining the longtime quartet (Eddie Roberts on guitar, Simon Allen on drums, Pete Shand on bass guitar and
Joe Tatton on organ and piano) The New Mastersounds celebrate their two decades of funky excellence with the new album, Shake It.
And the band gets us ready for the album with the horn and beat filled single, “Kings & Queens,” a tasty number that would have fit in the heyday of Stax and sounds just as good in 2019. Drummer Simon Allen tells us "The song started out as a bouncy drum groove, which inspired the bass line, which inspired a riff, a chord progression and shortly afterward, the lyrics and the horns. It all came together in the studio surprisingly quickly from a little iPhone demo recording. The end result is a funky, punchy, feel-good, 3-minute love song with killer horn lines and a smoking guitar solo! Think Average White Band meets Marvin Gaye."
