(October 26, 2017) Since he debuted as a teenager on seminal ‘80s boogie-funk label Philly World Records, vocalist/actor Norwood Young has released a wealth of rich, soulful material independently and worked with the likes of Millie Jackson (“Young Man, Older Woman”) and Pieces of a Dream (“What Can I Do”). His latest single, “Imagine,” is a moving ballad with a message. Although its opening line (“Imagine if we lived in perfect harmony”) may give the impression of a predictable “change the world” song, there’s plenty of substance to be found in the subsequent lines of the melodic tune—which has an unmistakable holiday feel in its instrumental arrangement.

Within “Imagine,” Norwood envisions “a place “blind to color, where love and race go hand in hand” and with “no more senseless killings.” Getting to the root of many of the issues plaguing all of us these days, he further pictures the ideal of “more time with family, and less technology.” Sung in his unique, gritty tenor with just the right mixture of finesse and exigency, the track is accompanied by a colorful video shot on location in Kyoto, Japan.
