(May 28, 2022) Back in the very early days of SoulTracks, we began to cover UK-based singer and songwriter Ola Onabule. His dramatic voice and perceptive writing on the album In Emergency Brake Silence won us over, and he had an international hit with the first single from the disc, "Soul Town."
Now, 18 years later, Onabule has revisited the song as part of an excellent new album featuring the SWR Big Band. Once again, his powerful vocals stand out, and the full arrangement accentuates the soul classic, giving it a new life and a freshness that sounds perfect in 2022.
