First Listen: Pink Sweat$ has a hit with "Honesty"

(June 3, 2019) Among the criticisms that get lobbed at love songs are that they are too sentimental or that they live in fairy-tale land. All of that “they’ll never be another like you,” blah, blah, blah tends to overlook the real way that relationships work – or don’t. The current generation of balladeers have set about addressing this supposed shortcoming.

Male vocalists sing songs that express vulnerability as often as they give us stories of where they wax rhapsodic about a woman’s beauty or hit us with stories of their bedroom prowess. In short, a love song of old is one where the singer is perceived to have all the answers.

On “Honesty,” vocalist Pink Sweat$ definitely does not have the answers, and the song combines a simple yet enthralling musical arrangement that features Pink Sweat$’ buttery tenor paired with an acoustic guitar and lyrics that dispense with the mush and go all in on for some real talk.

“Honesty” finds the vocalist engaged in a conversation with a lady who wants and needs some assurances before she goes all in on this relationship. However, Pink Sweat$ lets her know that there are no guarantees in this thing called love other than that the heart wants what the heart wants. Check out the song and video here.
