First Listen: PVibez and Laurnea give a nighttime jam

(May 25, 2019) The first time that I reviewed PVibez’s music, I described him as a musical geek who loved being holed up in his studio putting things together. That was a few years ago, and I don’t know how much things have changed in the intervening years. One thing that has remained somewhat constant has been his collaborations. And as he returns with a new tune, “Just in Case,” he has reached back to work with an old friend, Laurnea.

PVibez and Laurnea understand the struggles that come with working in an industry as fickle as the music business. Both dealt with record label blues in some form or fashion, and those experiences persuaded them that perhaps it was time for them to take complete control. Laurena released three albums after her split with Sony (on which she released her 1997 debut Betta Listen).

PVibez fell into his comfort zone as a producer who has released several projects that have been well-regarded in the indie soul movement,  with the most recent being 2018’s Vizelab Sessions Volume 1 – an album that featured the talents of Eshe Escoffery, Lifford, Andrae Bentley and Laurnea.

Now, PVibez and Laurnea collaborate on “Just in Case,” a single from PVibez Sessions Volume 2. The track is an atmospheric and funky ballad that gives Laurnea ample space to express vocally on a song where she reminds the object of her affection that if he ignores the nay sayers, she is ready to take this thing to the next level.
