(June 4,2020) Ya Ya Diamond got her vocal talent honestly. Her mother is international dance, jazz and gospel vocalist Evelyn Thomas, the niece of opera singer Robert McFerrin and the cousin of superstar vocalist and songwriter Bobby McFerrin. The holiday sing-alongs they must have had.
Diamond went on to have an accomplished career as a solo performer, as the front woman in a band and performing with a host of big names such as Mary Mary and Aaron Neville. Diamond’s vocal chops allow her to move from gospel, to pop, to jazz and soul.
On the new single, “Love In Your Eyes,” by Baltimore native and multi-instrumentalist Raymond Barton (Toni Braxton, Maysa), Diamond as featured vocalist showcases her R&B skills. Fans of that soul music that is both organic and sophisticated are going to like this one. The track is a straight up love ballad of the kind that beckons couples to the dance floor to hold each other close. It is another in the string of fine singles that Barton has released over the past three years.
The arrangement harkens back to an era when musicians came to together in a studio, plugged in their instruments and performed as a tight group where the sum of each instrument heard on this track adds up to a cohesive whole and when, lyrics placed an emphasis on romance and vocalists endowed a tune with passion and honesty.
