(March 10, 2021) David "Davinch" Chance and Dante “Chi” Jordan, members of the duo Ruff Endz, say that the name comes from their West Baltimore neighborhood, which has the reputation for being the rough part of the city. Chance and Jordan achieved their dreams of stardom in the late 1990s and early 2000s when the duo was signed to Epic Records, had their single “Don’t Forget About Me” featured in Blue Streak, starring Martin Lawrence and then released two albums that yielded chart topping singles.

Still, Baltimore was never far from their minds and hearts and Chance and Jordan reunited more than a decade after going their separate ways to make “Time 4 Change,’ their musical response to the uprising that followed the death of Freddie Gray while in police custody in 2015. Now Chance and Jordan have returned to the studio to create a new Ruff Endz album, titled Rebirth, that will be released on April 2. In the meantime the duo is giving us a preview with their new song, “Be The One.”

“Be The One” brings back the romance and sensuality that was a Ruff Endz staple in the early 2000s with a modern R&B elements such as delivery that blurs the line between the soulful Dru Hill, Jodeci inspired singing and the hip-hop influenced vocal delivery favored by contemporary R&B vocalists. The themes addressed in “Be The One” are as timeless: commitment, loyalty and devotions.

Chance sums up what he and Jordan were going for when they wrote “Be The One”: “The inspiration behind "Be The One" is based on our own experiences and the experiences of most people I know. "When a man has finally found the one lady that he feels is his soulmate or his ride or die, he is willing to put it all on the line for her and will put her worries to rest.”
