(September 2, 2018) Saunders Sermons’ talent as a trombonist has landed him on some big stages. He’s performed with Mary J. Blige, 50 Cent, Diddy and Snoop Dogg. Saunders’ work with Tedeschi Trucks Band and Maxwell earned him a pair of Grammys. However, SoulTrackers also know Sermons as a talented vocalist and songwriter in his own right. My introduction to Sermons came when I reviewed his 2009 album Classic Delight, a record I still play.

Now, Sermons is back with his new album The Timeless Wanderer, which includes the track “Journey.” “Journey” combines that church inspired organ play, blues/rock inspired guitars and Sermons’ creativity on the trombone with lyrics that tell the story of a man working to persevere in the constant struggles of life. That is indeed a journey, and through this tune’s tempo changes and shifts between genres, Sermons shows that he is prepared to go wherever the ride takes him. Check it out.
