(March 7, 2023) The word “love” often gets a bad rap. People apply the word to material objects and even to people who they are physically attracted to but who they don’t have any real connection to beyond that. The fact is that the world does need a lot more love of the kind that truly prioritizes the well-being of all people. We need more God-like love.

That is the kind of love that the band Sensere sings about in their new single “L.O.V.E.” Sensere is a band that fuses elements of funk and R&B instrumentation into songs that sport gospel-based and inspirational lyrics. The band’s sound and inspiration can be traced the self-contained R&B and funk bands that dominated charts and airways from the mid 1960s through the early 1980s. Earth, Wind & Fire was a big inspiration for Sencere, as can be seen by their remake of the song “Fantasy.”

“L.OV.E.” is a praise dance tune where the band calls for humanity to adopt the kind of love for each other that God has for us. The song’s message is both timeless and timely. Timeless because Sensere used the vehicle of funk to drive home a message that artists ranging from Jackie DeShannon and Isley-Jasper-Isley have delivered over the years. Timely because in a world where people are quick to kill with a word as well as a bullet, we still need to be reminded that world still needs love. Perhaps we need love more than we ever have.
