(May 23, 2018) Sheila Carlito is finally ready to launch out into the deep. After cutting his teeth as a songwriter on the Roc Nation Publishing roll, the New York-based singer-songwriter is now stepping out with solo material. The latest of his creations, “Cartoon,” easily transports the eager listener into a Stevie-meets-Frank Ocean orbit, giving off quite a stunning Quiet Storm haze. With a gutsy electric guitar solo and Fender Rhodes vibes dominating, Carlito – in glorious poetry fashion – shows his affection towards a taken girl, crooning of how he would smite the beauty with summer love. But he loses the fight, as the memories are drowned away by a disappointing reality: “Both our names in the sand, with water washed away/Nothing is ever here to stay.”

Even with its shattering heartbreak, it’s a pleasant and enjoyable track, and builds up expectations for more to come. That will happen when Carlito’s debut LP, When A Flower Dies, It Never Feels Afraid, is slated to drop on June 22.
