(June 9, 2017) It's an old story: one half of a couple gets content, becomes comfortable and, eventually, strays from home. Sometimes they're open about it and at other times, they get caught. That's what pop/R&B newcomer Cortez Shaw is crooning about in his sultry earworm of a single, "Burn."

A two-time American Idol contestant, the native Texan grew up on a steady diet of Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson, sparking Cortez' nimble vocals and providing a goal on which to focus during hard times. The self-penned "Burn" opens like most other ballads, expressing a yearning and a love for his lady.....up until Shaw's tongue-twisting chorus recounts her infidelity and his now-broken heart; "If you want it you had it / And then you threw it away / You ain’t the real thing / The real thing no way / Everybody with a brain knows / When you play with fire mixed with gasoline…You get burned."

With a debut album in the works and his recent casting to a yet-unnamed major network show, please believe that the promising Cortez Shaw could be a presence to contend with. If "Burn" is the first hint, the rest might really be blazing.
