First Listen: Tamar Braxton can't believe she stole "My Man"

Tamar Braxton is serving up the first taste of her fifth solo album with a heart-tugging slow-jam, “My Man.” Inspired by the real-life heartbreak of her mother, Evelyn, Tamar passionately emotes the many thoughts, questions, and points of confusion experienced by a faithful woman betrayed. “Stood right by your side through everything that you went through…Why is she around?” she ponders in the first verse in a rich low alto voice with shades of sister Toni.

By the song’s midpoint, she’s belting grittily on the higher end of the scale, “Is this my life? It cuts me like a knife.” The blunt acknowledgement of pain is spiced up as she exclaims “Heffa!” towards the climax. “My Man” is the latest SoulTracks First Listen.
