(July 14, 2022) Some artists perform so well together and have so much chemistry that it’s easy to assume that they’ve been frequent collaborators. That’s the case with Tamela Mann and Yolanda Adams. The two legends come together for the first time on the Kirk Franklin produced song, “Superheroes Prayer.” The stunning duet paring these two gospel legends is the lead single from Mann’s latest album, Overcomer, which is due to be released on July 22.

Mann and Adams created some of this generation’s most memorable and inspirational gospel anthems – “The Battle Is the Lord’s” and “Take Me to the King” are just two that come to mind. However, the two have never recorded together.

Mann and Adams created some of this generation’s most memorable and inspirational gospel anthems – “The Battle Is the Lord’s” and “Take Me to the King” are just two that come to mind. However, the two have never recorded together.

Expectations had to be high when that much anointed talent comes together, and Mann, Adams and Franklin exceeded those expectations. Franklin gave the vocalists a song that speaks to the human longing for supernatural deliverance in times where crises and tragedies abound. “Superheroes Prayer” takes the image of the man or woman with supernatural powers and places that person and reminds us that Superman, Black Panther, Storm and Batman can’t be everywhere. Tragedies still happen. People still get killed in mass shootings. There’s still discrimination and natural disasters and political corruption and wars of aggression that cause famine and death far away from the battlefields.

It's enough to make a Man of Steel shut the door to his Batcave, fall on his knees and seek help from someone who is really all seeing, all knowing and omnipresent. And that’s the point Mann and Adams make powerfully on “Superheroes Prayer.” Jesus Christ is the ultimate superhero who works through humanity to bring peace, justice and righteousness to the world.

Mann and Adams possess two strong and distinct voices. These are two women who are 100 percent comfortable standing alone because they have the chops. Yet, the whole is greater than the sum of the two parts on this track. The two engage in a spiritual conversation each feeding off the energy of the other. Adams and Mann know when less is more and when they must rise vocally to the occasion, and when they sing in harmony, it’s pure perfection. Check out their dynamic performance here.
