(May 6, 2020) Looking for a boost of inspiration wrapped around feelgood grooves during these times of uncertainty? Look no further from the Eric Krasno-produced track, “Love and Unity,” the newest track from the nine-piece “sweaty soul” funk band The Burroughs. With the spunk and spirit of Sly & the Family Stone, this brassy funk fest comes to life and the timing of its arrival is almost uncanny. Lyrics and grooves combined, it’s like a groovy 21st century update of “What the World Needs Now” with a dash of Prince.

Filmed prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the cheerful music video – directed by Johnny Burroughs, the band’s frontman and creative director – sports a welcoming hometown vibe as participants frolic up and down the streets of Greeley, Colorado, all while wearing colorful hand puppets. Inside the visual landscape lies a sweet, colorful display of various puppets, highlighting the representation and beauty of our diversity. In the middle of all the action, a celebration of dance powered by the Colorado Dance Collective and FoCo Flava erupts and fires up the fun, often channeling the joyful fantasy of Sesame Street tucked inside Bronx b-boy culture.

With this video, we wanted to create a story that captured the spirit and message of The Burroughs in a totally, new way, and really highlighted the talent in our community,” said Johnny Burroughs. “We know that nothing can be made without a community, and we were fortunate to have so many incredible people join together to create this uplifting video.”

The song is getting some pretty sweet buzz, too. Spotify recently added it to two of their urban contemporary editorial playlists: Nu-Funk and All Funked Up.

Taking the words from Hal David from his iconic love anthem, what the world need now is love, sweet love. And we’re glad to be supplying the love in this World Premiere of The Burroughs’ anthem of love and togetherness. Let us know if you’re feeling the love.
