June 6, 2018 -- For reasons that escape me, it’s become a popular online sport to take shots at rising artists and to revel more in their misses than their hits. The higher these artists attempt to soar, the sharper aim some shameless folks like to take at them.

A recent case in point: Tinashe.  We have featured on this site Tinashe’s work from her superb 2014 debut album Aquarius through her most recent mixtape, Nightride.  Her recently-released second album, Joyride, although long-awaited and much anticipated, unfortunately has been a disappointment in sales, moving under 5,000 units in its first week and dropping off the charts rather quickly. And that has let loose and emboldened the haters: If you search Tinashe’s name on Twitter or other social media, there appear to be more followers who are finding creative ways to call her a “flop” than supporting her.

Certainly, her new album has not delivered the sales her label had hoped for, but let’s cut this artist some deserved slack. Tinashe has been, and remains, a triple threat: She can write, she can sing, and she can dance. We feature here “Fires and Flames,” the closing track from her new album, a lovely ballad which should put to rest any doubts about her vocal capabilities.  Enjoy.
