(February 9, 2023) When Ted Winn joined Sheri Jones-Moffett almost three decades ago, his work with Kevin Davidson and Richard Smallwood was already noted by the gospel choir community.  Several years later, radio recognized Ted & Sheri’s rendition of Roberta Flack & Donny Hathaway’s “Come Ye Disconsolate,” which received a Stellar Award in 2002.

Eventually, Winn established his solo career, scoring a Billboard Top 25 Gospel debut entitled Balance, the first release under his Teddys Jamz moniker and Shanachie Entertainment.   Besides showcasing his velvety soulful voice, Winn manages a songwriters and producers outlet, Veracity Entertainment, representing artists from gospel and R&B (e.g., JJ Hairston & Youthful Praise, Mariah Carey)

More recently, Winn started releasing several singles for the R&B market that include an introspective version of Marvin Gaye’s “Inner City Blues.”  In his first return to SoulTracks since 2016’s “Grateful,” the Memphis native joins Tweet and Elijah Blake on the smooth mid-tempo, “Perspective” (Teddys Jamz).  The title implies what attitudes we embrace and how we can radiate hope in all circumstances.

“Perspective” effectively blends Winn’s gospel background alongside his R&B savvy and co-production skills that give ample opportunity for Tweet and Blake to express their hearts toward the subject matter.  A welcome organic soundtrack highlighted by Philip Lassiter’s string and horns arrangements propels the multilayered voices thru the hooks and choruses.

Thanks to Winn and his collaborators for dropping some knowledge about properly adjusting to life’s unpredictability.  Take a good listen!
