(August 30, 2022) Val B. King is the granddaughter of the legendary blues guitarist B.B. King. However, Val B. King asserts her individuality on her latest album, So Many Ways, even when singing the tune that is her grandfather’s best known and biggest hit, “The Thrill Is Gone,” which she reimagines as a fusion of funk and R&B.

Ms. King is making her mark as an R&B singer, and she showcases her mastery of that genre throughout the Frank McComb-produced album, and “Ohh You,” King’s latest release, finds her fusing her smooth and sensual brand of R&B with a touch of jazz courtesy legendary contemporary jazz reed man Najee.

“Ohh You” is a song about the feeling that comes when someone has met the person of their dreams. “Ohh You” begins with a riff and flute solo by Najee that sets the stage for a song that is all about sweetness and light that comes with being with the one that you dreamed about and searched for. Val B. King has found that person and she wants him and the world to know that everything that he brings to the relationship makes her want to respond in kind.

The thrill definitely remains. Check out Val B. King’s “Ohh You” here.
