First Listen: Will Downing sings to us all on "Stand Up"

(January 13, 2021) When you’re caught in a pandemic, some people cover up and wait it out. Others bury themselves in their work, albeit in new ways. The Prince of Sophisticated Soul, Will Downing, definitely falls in the latter camp. He spent much of 2020 writing and recording new music, and the fruits of that work have already been heard in two outstanding singles, the dance jam “Right Where You Are,” and the beautiful tribute to lost loved ones, “So Many Good Die Young.”

Those two songs and more are going to be part of Will’s much anticipated new album, The Song Garden (which will be the SoulTracks Album of the Month for February), and Will has just issued his third advance single, the smooth adult soul midtempo, “Stand Up.”

“Stand Up” is a strong note of encouragement for a lot of folks who are living in a yearlong personal funk, reminding us of our value and our ability to shine:

Be that medicine
Go out in the world
And start healing
Let them know just who you are
Make them see you’re a shining star
That's what you are

This is just the kind of song we needed to hear, and Will delivers it in an irresistible package. Check out “Stand Up,” and welcome The Prince back to SoulTracks!
