(June 7, 2023) Before a songwriter writes their thoughts down, there are several steps that are shaped in the artistic process. Undoubtedly, the launching pad is some kind of inspiration stirring in the artist’s mind.

In addition to musical heroes ranging from Celine Dion to Sly Stone, Will Heard acknowledges the people and points in his life that inspire his songwriting process. For instance, on his latest single, “Flashlight,” the London England-born vocalist gravitated to the rhythm track: “The song is me addressing where I’ve been and it’s about finding that thing that illuminates your world and makes you feel inspired - for me that’s harmony and groove… and music.”

And Heard’s fascinating vocal tone and range highlighted by a delectable falsetto are tailored made for the dance floor and the funk. Since Heard broke out in 2013 with his platinum selling No.3 hit in the U.K., “Sonnentanz: Sun Don’t Shine” with Klangkarussell, he has toured extensively and collaborated with the international progressive dance duo Rudimental.

After a series of solo singles and an E.P., Heard now issues with “Flashlight” (UnderHeard Records), a track from an upcoming debut full-length due before the end of 2023. Co-writer and producer, Grammy-nominated Linden Jay (Chlöe Bailey, Snoop Dogg), fills the room with an airy funk bed and a soulfully charged choir provided by Heard. Yet beyond the music, Flashlight’s storyline resonates through Heard’s front cover art - illustrating his contorted body and acoustic guitar in search of new musical inspirations across a dazzling, heavily textured field. Altogether, “Flashlight” drops a mighty hello from a shining star in U.K. to soul and dance music fans across North America. Check it out!
