There are some songs that are “mood elevators,” that make you smile and lift you like a gentle wave every time you hear them. You bask in the moment they create.

In 1966, the late singer, songwriter and guitarist Bobby Hebb released his track “Sunny,” a song that has lifted millions of listeners since with its heartfelt message to a woman who changed Hebb’s life for the better. The track reached #3 on the Billboard R&B chart and has been covered countless times by artists including Marvin Gaye and James Brown, but none of them managed to outpace Hebb’s original.

We feature here Hebb performing the song live in 1972 accompanying himself on guitar with the great Ron Carter riding shotgun on bass.  Enjoy.
