Flashback Soul: It’s All “Part Of The List” for Ne-Yo

May 3, 2017 -- Where have you gone, our old friend Ne-Yo, the soul nation turns its lonely eyes to you, woo ooh ooh? (Sung to the tune of “Mrs. Robinson.”)

Can it really be 9 years since the singer/songwriter and producer Ne-Yo released his double-platinum selling album, Year of the Gentleman, containing the gorgeous “Part Of The List” and other hits?  It really has been that long, I'm afraid.  Made all the more painful by the fact that Ne-Yo somehow veered off the pure R&B path not long thereafter. Attributable perhaps to his having taken a business position at Motown, or to his desire to stay  “relevant” and appeal to younger audiences, Ne-Yo simply hasn't displayed his considerable songwriting and melodic gifts in quite some time.  Come back, Ne-Yo, we miss you.

Meanwhile, step back in time and witness again Ne-Yo’s talents below, where he gives a masterclass in crafting, and singing, a memorable and elegant R&B ballad.  Enjoy.
