(November 10, 2020) If you look at the acts that shaped popular music during the period from the 80s through the 2000s, you wouldn't get far before the name Full Force came up. The production, songwriting and performance team was ubiquitous, making hits for countless artists ranging from UTFO to N'Sync.
Full Force has continued to be a "force" to this day, and a new release reminds us of both their talent and their vast network of friends. A few years ago, they released the song "I Feel Good, I Look Good, I'm God Good" from their star-studded With Love From our Friends album, and were ultimately nominated for the SoulTracks Readers' Choice Awards. But the group has created a cool remix this past week that we definitely wanted to put in front of SoulTrackers.
The song had a dramatic origin. Full Force’s Paul Anthony wrote the song while in his hospital bed at Sloan Kettering Cancer Hospital in New York City, when he was undergoing chemo treatment while fighting for his life dealing with mantle cell lymphoma. Group member Bowlegged Lou Hill told us, “Paul wrote those lyrics in his hospital bed when things were not looking too good. Faith Evans and Sheila E performed the song with us for the love after I spoke to both of them. Faith even did the video with us for the original version."
There was a happy ending, too. Paul Anthony underwent a successful stem cell bone marrow transplant with his blood brother Lou, and has been cancer free for 7 years and counting.
