Interim (noun): The intervening time.  Interim is also the name of Julie Dexter's new EP. That title is an appropriate name for an EP, since an extended play CD usually features a sampling of music likely to appear on an artist's upcoming full-length album. So an EP like Interim will give the legion of Dexter fans something to listen to in the time that intervenes before her new album's expected release in the first part of 2011. Dexter, who was born in Great Britain and now resides in Atlanta has developed a large and loyal following that will welcome this sampling.

Dexter selected tracks that showcase her broad musical palate on Interim. The six tracks include a remix of "Choices," a song that appeared on Dexter's 2005 album Conscious. The other five include yet to be released material. Those tracks draw from Dexter's musical influences that range from dance to neo-soul to tracks that give a nod to the Caribbean. In addition to the remix of "Choices," Interim also features the socially aware song "Melanin," which is an appeal for people to show compassion to all humanity regardless of skin color or nationality.

Despite the presence of songs like "Choices," "Happiness" and "Melanin," Dexter is also concerned with making sure her fans have some fun at the club. Three of the tracks featured on this EP are dance tunes. There are two versions of the pulsating "Make You Dance," and the funky "Blue Skies."

Julie Dexter shows again that she is an artist of substance and diversity, and while her fans wait anxiously for her next full length disc, they will happily be receiving this fun sampling in the Interim.
