Dionne Farris is still largely unknown to many audiences, but within the music industry and among avid soul music fans, she is an artist revered (Read an interview with her here).

She rose to fame in the 1990s as the lead vocalist of the alternative rock band Arrested Development and contributed to their hit 1992 single "Tennessee," which won a Grammy for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group. After leaving Arrested Development in 1995, Farris embarked on a solo career and released her debut album "Wild Seed - Wild Flower" in 1994. The album featured the hit single "I Know," which became her signature song. She also acted in several films and televisions series.

For Farri's loyal fans there is a small trove of real treasures in her discography, and for our money there is nothing better than her beautful, gentle track, "Hopeless" from the soundtrack of the movie Love Jones. She simply sounds fantastic on a song that gets its message across beautifully without ever overwhelming.

This is a song that we're happy to unearth again for SoulTrackers. Take a listen and tell us what you think.
