He may have started out performing under the label of Jazz, but the depth of his talent on keyboards of all shapes and sizes and his epic, widescreen Quincy Jones style imagination long ago transcended labels.

    Fresh off having just celebrated Herbie's 73rd birthday, we present this epic meeting of the minds: Here teamed with Patrice Rushen - no less an innovative keyboard wizard herself, and often compared to Herbie Hancock - they join forces on electric piano and altered vocoder processed vocals on this Rod Temperton (Heatwave) written and Hancock co-produced production, "Give It All Your Heart" from Herbie's 1982 Lite Me Up album. Though it was never released as a radio or for sale single because of its length, it is a song worthy of being our latest Soul Tracks Lost Gem. Tell us what you think of it!
