Classic soul music fans know the name William DeVaughn for his platinum selling 1974 single, “Be Thankful For What You’ve Got.” The song became DeVaughn’s calling card, and opened up opportunities for him around the world.

On DeVaughn’s next album, working again with producer Frank Fioravanti, he recorded a number of songs that stayed in the vault until today. One of them is a electronics-infused updating of the Junior Walker classic, “What Does It Take (To Win Your Love),” that Fioravanti has pulled out to share with DeVaughn’s fans.

“What Does It Take” definitely has a mid-70s pre-disco vibe, and DeVaughn does a nice job delivering his Curtis Mayfield-like vocals on top of the synthsizers. Most of all, the song serves as an interesting uncovering of music by this notable artist that has spent more that four decades under wraps.
