(October 2018) Multitalented and multidimensional is the best way to describe someone like Meli’sa Morgan, and artist with a compelling presence and magnifying voice. I had the chance to delve a little bit deeper into the life of the stunning songstress, and what I found was incredibly inspiring.

Meli’sa Morgan is at the top echelon of memorable female voices. She has blessed us with her music over a career spanning over 35 years. Not only did she begin singing at an early age—her parents were a positive driving force in her confidence in the beginning stages of her career.

The beautiful and talented songstress made a name for herself back in 1985, when Capitol Records released her debut album with the #1 hit, “Do Me Baby.” The song was written and originally performed by Prince, however, Meli’sa gave it notoriety with her stellar cover. In an interview with Meli’sa, she thinks back to a conversation she had with Prince after the song was at the top of the charts. She says, “Prince thanked me for doing the song, but I thanked him and said the song was yours—but he came back and said, but you made it great.” I love that she shared that because it shows how full of gratitude they both were to have come together and shared in something that would change the face of women in music.

The song was edgy in 1985, and Meli’sa was just 18 years old. From that point on, Meli’sa took the industry by storm and collaborated with people like Aretha Franklin, Kashif, Whitney Houston, Chaka Khan and many more.

Being gifted with an angelic voice is not her only amazing quality—she’s also a grand performer who sells out venues wherever and whenever she has a show. In catching up with her, we talked about how she prepares for her performances by removing any negative energy she may have from around her…becoming one with her audience and making them feel comfortable all while giving them an awesome show.

Meli’sa also talked with me about her new album, Love Demands. She describes it as the “new me.” The album is full of wonderful music that she undoubtedly poured her heart and soul into. The album is comprised of 12 songs—six covers of great classics, plus six new songs that show Meli’sa’s beautiful range and depth. She wants people to appreciate her older classics, while also, embracing the new things she’s doing. You can find her new album, here on iTunes, Amazon, and her website. Also—Find out more about her upcoming shows, and much more about her life in this interview, than you may have heard in others.  She’s certainly doing amazing things… stay up to date with her, there’s a lot more coming!
